VMWare has released version 6 of its popular Fusion virtualization platform that allows users to run Windows and other operating systems, on their Mac OS X desktop. New features include support for OS X Mavericks, Haswell chipset fine tuning, and support for Windows 8.1.

Additional features available to users of 'Professional' include: Enhanced restrictions on virtual machines, the ability to expire virtual machines at a specific date and time, the ability to prevent users from creating new virtual machines, and BYOPC which allows users to run restricted virtual machines created by VMware Fusion 6 Professional on Windows and Linux PCs.
One noticeable difference between versions 5 and 6 of Fusion is the price. Users will be paying $60 for Fusion 6, and $130 for Fusion 6 Professional. Users who purchase Fusion 5 between August 1st and September 30th can get version 6 free. Other users of versions 4 and 5 will pay $50 for the standard version, and $70 for Professional.
